MY PLEDGE OF SUPPORT FOR SINGLE PAYER UNIVERSAL

HEALTH CARE

I (we) the undersigned am (are) concerned about the crisis in health care in the United States . We have health care professionals with the best training in the world and a health infrastructure that is second to none. In spite of that, citizens in other nations live longer because they have better access to the care they have. Citizens in other nations do not face the prospect of bankruptcy or go without necessary treatments because health care costs are too high. Companies in other nations do not ship jobs out of country because health care costs are too high. Doctors in other countries do not have to negotiate with insurance companies to provide you with the care your doctor knows you need. Health care should be a right and not a commodity.

I (we) recognize that our health care system cannot be “fixed” with more band aids. The only fundamental change which can provide adequate health care coverage for everyone while at the same time controlling costs is universal single payer health care administered by a public trust and given the freedom to negotiate for prices of goods and services. I (we) urge the Colorado Blue Ribbon Commission on Health Care and our legislators to give us real health care reform by providing universal single payer health care for the state of Colorado.
